About me

I was born on June 27, 1984 at Anren, a small rural town in China's central south Hunan province. In my childhood, the only chance that I saw professional photographic equipments was when my ID photo was taken in a studio. When I went to Hunan University (one of the best engineering schools in China) to study Civil Engineering at the age of 16, my father gave me a point-and-shoot film camera and I used it a lot to photograph myself and my roomates when we went to attractions.

I really started my journey into photography in 2008 when my son Evan was born. I spent $1000 on a brand new Pentax k20d and three basic lenses that cover from 18 mm wide angle to 300 mm telephoto. After that, my passion grew while studying the fundamentals of photography. I enjoy the feelings that photography gives me while I am aiming through the viewfinder and searching for the perfect angle, the perfect flicker of light, and perfect smile, grimace, scream, or flock of hair.

Photography is an expensive hobby. So far, I have owned a majority of lenses that Pentax has ever made, no matter zoom lenses or prime lenses. I use digital SLRs a lot, but I never give up shooting in film because of its special charm. I have a series of old Pentax flim SLRs: K1000, ME Super, MX, LX, Z-1P (75th anniversity edition), MZ-3 (both black and silver editions), and *ist, some of which are really hard-to-find nowadays. In addition to the Pentax system, I also possess a Canon system, which include two EOS 5D cameras and 16-35L, 24-105L, 70-200L, 85L, 100L, 135L, and 400L lenses.

I believe the best types of photographs are those that were inspired by a curiosity for life, even those the smallest, most mundane things that occur in the world and go unnoticed. A lot of my photography might not interest you, but I enjoy the excitement at the mere thought of discovering the unknown and getting up close and personal with every aspect of this world. A few samples of my photographs are as follows...
